1. What You’ll Need
1. Shower Curtain
2. Tape Measure
3. Pencil or Marker
5. Calculator (optional)
You can find a shower curtain to fit any shower size, from small stall size to extra-large walk-in showers. Whether you’re looking for a standard sized shower curtain or one that is custom made, you’ll be able to find what you need with a little measurement and some planning.
2. Measuring the Width
To ensure that your shower curtain is the perfect size, you will need to measure the width of your shower or tub. To do this, simply use a tape measure to find the distance between the side walls of your shower or tub. Once you have this measurement, you can refer to a shower curtain size chart to find the appropriate size for your space.
If you are unable to find a chart, you can also use the following general guidelines:
-For showers measuring up to 60 inches in width, use a shower curtain measuring 72 inches wide.
-For showers measuring up to 72 inches in width, use a shower curtain measuring 78 inches wide.
-For showers measuring up to 84 inches in width, use a shower curtain measuring 84 inches wide.
-For showers measuring up to 96 inches in width, use a shower curtain measuring 96 inches wide.
3. Measuring the Length
To ensure your shower curtain is the perfect fit, you’ll need to take three measurements: the width of your shower, the height of your shower wall where you’ll be hanging the curtain, and the length from the top of the curtain to the floor.
First, measure the width of your shower. For a standard-sized shower, this will be about 60 inches. However, if you have a larger or custom-sized shower, your measurement may be different.
Next, measure the height of your shower wall where you’ll be hanging the curtain. Most curtains will hang about 78 inches from the top of the curtain to the floor, but again, this may vary depending on the size and style of your shower and curtain.
Finally, determine how long you want your shower curtain to hang. For a standard-sized shower, most curtains will fall somewhere between 72 and 84 inches from top to bottom. However, if you want a longer or shorter look, you can adjust accordingly.
Once you have these three measurements, simply choose a shower curtain that is at least as wide as your shower and at least as long as your desired length.
4. Choosing the Right Curtain
One of the first things you need to do is to determine which style of curtain you want. You can choose from grommet curtains, tab-top curtains, ring top curtains or rod pocket curtains. Once you’ve decided on the style, you need to take proper measurements.
5. Installing the Curtain
5. Installing the Curtain
Now it’s time to install your beautiful new shower curtain. If you’re using a fabric shower curtain, you’ll want to make sure it’s properly lined to protect it from mildew. To install, simply follow these steps:
1. Start by holding the ring hooks or header tape up to the top of the shower rod. Make sure that the hooks or tape are evenly spaced and centered on the rod.
2. Mark the spot where the hooks or tape will go on the rod with a pencil, then remove them.
3. Thread the shower curtain through the hooks or header tape, starting at the top of the curtain. Make sure that the bottom hem of the curtain hangs evenly all around.
4. Hang the shower curtain on the rod, starting at one end and working your way to the other until it’s all in place.
5. To secure fabric curtains in place, try using a weighted liner at the bottom hem. This will help keep things looking neat and tidy while preventing water from splashing out when you shower.
6. Caring for the Curtain
It’s important to ensure that your shower curtain gets plenty of air circulation to prevent mildew buildup. When you’re not using the shower, open the curtain to let it air out. If the fabric is machine-washable, launder it regularly according to the manufacturer’s instructions. For additional protection against mildew, you can also spray the curtain with a mildew-resistant solution.
Your shower curtain is an important part of your bathroom décor. It can add style and privacy to your space. When you’re ready to purchase a new one, it’s important to take accurate measurements. With a few simple steps, you can ensure that your shower curtain will be the perfect fit for your bathroom.
